APRA

Australasian Performing Rights Association (APRA), which has responsibility for looking after the interests of music creators and publishers, collects and disperses all royalties earned by music copyright holders as a result of the public performance of their work.

It not only represents Australian and copyright holders, but also takes responsibility for the performance within and of composers, writers and publishers from all over the world. A major task of APRA is to monitor and license major music users such as radio stations, television networks, venues where the performance of music is common (concert halls, dance halls, etc) and, more recently, music performed over the Internet (on-line).
